Instant Camera | Bergen County Photographer
An Instant Camera is a camera that uses a self-developing film to create a print soon after the picture is taken. Polaroid was the pioneer of consumer-friendly instant cameras.
Edward Land is credited for developing the Polaroid Instant Camera that went on sale in 1948. This camera was capable of having a picture taken and developed in 60 seconds or less.
These cameras allowed for instant gratification to amateurs during a time before digital photography. They were also helpful to photographer to test their lighting a camera settings for example, before shooting the final image on film.
With the advent of affordable digital photography in the mid 1990s, the market for instant photography started fading.
Recently instant cameras are making a comeback as people are enjoying holding tangible physical pictures as opposed to viewing a picture on a screen.
The new generation of instant are not necessarily just analog, but a lot of them are hybrid models, meaning you can save your image on an SD card and then print directly on the camera with some even allowing digital editing before printing.
