Five Different Types of Portrait Photography
Portrait Photography is all about photographing people. Capturing people and their personalities is essential for a good portrait. Most people think of portraits as a smiling person looking at the camera, but it goes far beyond that.
Here are five different types of portrait photography you should know:
Traditional Portraits. Often shot in studio with subject looking at the camera and a formal backdrop. It tends to show a traditional composition, meaning the photograph is cropped on the head and shoulders.
2. Lifestyle Portraits. Often captures people on an everyday environment, doing everyday things. Lifestyle portraits resemble everyday life and tend to capture the interaction between family members.
3. Environmental Portraits. A mix between traditional portrait and lifestyle portrait, the environment is as important to the image as the person. The environmental portrait takes place in a location that means something to the subject. The pose, lighting, subject and background work together in this type of portrait.
4. Candid Portraits. Unplanned. Do not use any direction or posing from the photographer.
5. Glamour Portrait. Places an emphasis on the beauty of the subjects. This involves planning the wardrobe and hiring professional make up artists.
