How to Photograph Fireworks | Bergen County Photographer

It’s that time of the year again, December 31st is here and a lot of people have asked me how to photograph fireworks. It is not as hard as it may seem. Here are a few tips:

  1. You will need a tripod and a cable release for your camera. You need to keep your camera stable and free from any movement.

  2. Carefully scope put the location early and try to anticipate where to aim your camera before the fireworks go off.

  3. Fireworks are quite bright, apertures in the mid to small range work well. Somewhere between f/8 to f/16.

  4. Shoot in bulb mode, this will allow you to keep your shutter open for as long as you are holding it, for a few seconds the beginning to end of explosions.

  5. Use a low ISO to keep your shots as clean as possible.

  6. Switch off your flash. Its has no use here.

  7. Shoot in manual mode. This will give you more control over your shots and you will have better success.
