Five Things to Look for when Hiring a Photographer | Bergen County Photographer
When you hire a photographer, being it for an event or a portrait sessions, there are a lot of things to take into consideration. I am going to talk about the five things that I think are the most important. When I put myself in my clients’ shoes, this is what I think about:
Shooting and Processing Style. Different photographers have different styles. Some have a more documentary styles, others a more traditional. Do you like the photographer style? Does the photographer have a cohesive style perceived in all photographs?
Investment. Photographers put a lot of time and energy producing high quality products and there is a cost to it. Make sure you can afford the style you are looking for even if it means saving for a while in order to hire the right person. Does the photographer provide digital files? Does the photographer provide prints? What kind of products are you looking for? Wall art, album, both?
Location. Some photographer meet the clients at their home, at a park or any location, others work exclusively in a studio. collaborate with the photographer to choose a location and make sure you are happy with it. Also check if there is a traveling fee.
Photographer/Client Relationship. Different personalities offer different challenges. Is the photographer easy to collaborate with? Do they put you at ease? Do they provide good customer service?
Meet and Greet. A lot of photographers schedule a meet and greet either in person or by phone. This is very helpful to make sure you are hiring the right person for the job. If the photographer you are inquiring about doesn't schedule this meet and greet , feel free to ask for one. Especially if you are uncertain about the process.
There are a lot of other things you should look for when hiring a photographer that I did not list here. what other things should we add to this list? Drop me a note and let me know.
